About FabLab

FabLab is an independent workshop notebook for people who sew — by hand, by machine, or somewhere in between. Every tutorial is written from the bench outward: what you need on the table, what each step actually does, and how to tell when it has gone right. The library covers the full arc from threading a needle for the first time through drafting, fitting and finishing a garment, plus the small repair skills that keep clothes in use instead of in a bin.

Our editorial standard is simple: a project is published only after it has been made, worn or used by a real person. Measurements are given in metric first with imperial in brackets, because fabric is sold both ways. Where a technique has more than one accepted method — pinning versus clipping, French seams versus serging — we say so and explain which one we use and why, rather than presenting a single way as the only way.

We do not publish sponsored patterns or paid placements, and the materials we list are the ones we actually used. If a notion or tool is genuinely optional, it is marked as such so you are not sent shopping for something you will use once. When a guide is corrected — a wrong seam allowance, a clearer sequence for a fiddly step — the page is updated and the revision noted rather than quietly rewritten.
